The shandy- half beer, half lemonade – has an interesting role in Australian history. Historically the shandy in Australia was a woman’s drink. I think for perhaps two reasons – a woman could not handle the power of a manly beer so had to have a watered down version, but also – why waste a beer on a woman, she only deserves a tiny amount. Interestingly, in a further tip of the hat to Aussie sexism, there was no thought of using the strong manly beer to get the sheilas a bit tipsy so you could disarm their naturally modest reticence and have your way with them. You could do that anyway.
My resolution this year is to be less goal focussed
